MOPS
MOPS (Mothers of Pre-schoolers) is a non-denominational group of moms who meet from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm on every other Tuesday during the school year at Murphy First Baptist Church. Moore House Ministry
Moore House Ministry feeds 100 to 150 families every other Tuesday. The next food giveaway will be on November 9, 2004. The food giveaway is from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Joy and Dick Lynn run the ministry from their home in Murphy, NC 28906. They also have clothes for those who need them. All food is donated from churches as is the gas money for picking up the donated food. The food is given to whomever needs it. A small donation, of a dollar or so, is requested. Extra food is taken to the jail, senior centers, Christian Love Ministries, REACH, and others. The ministry is staffed by all volunteers.

Parlez-vous francais? If you do speak French and want to practice your language skills, then come to the Murphy Public Library on Wednesdays from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A new French conversation group is starting up for those who can carry on a conversation in French. If you don't speak French yet, you can still come and listen in. Everyone is welcome as long as no English is spoken. There is no charge to join this group. Public Library News - Murphy, NC 28906
Library hours are Monday - Friday from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm. The library is open late on Thursday until 9:00 pm. Saturday hours are 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.
Storytime is Mondays, 10:00 am for ages 3 to 5, with fingerplays, stories, songs and more.
Every Thursday night is movie night at the Murphy Public Library. Award winning movies start at 6:00 pm and there is no admission charge. Every week has a theme. The first Thursday features Musical, the second Classic, the third Western and the fourth an Independent Film. On the occasional fifth Thursday, a film with a local connection will be shown. These movies have been filmed locally, may feature someone from the area or may have been produced or directed by one of our residents.
The Movie Public Performance Site License does not permit advertising the title of the movie. However, you can call the library for the title of the week's movie at 828-837-2417.
All movies are for general audiences with the exception of the Independent Films on the fourth Thursday which is usually geared towards a more mature audience.
